Vision
As AI technologies – such as computer vision, language models, reinforcement learning and generative AI models – advance at an unprecedented pace, the convergence of AI with engineering disciplines presents opportunities for transformative engineering research. This convergence has generated immense enthusiasm and demand across Princeton, especially within the engineering school where there is a strong desire to seamlessly integrate AI into engineering research to foster innovation and accelerate technological breakthroughs.
Princeton has a unique opportunity to amplify its impact by combining its strength in artificial intelligence and machine learning with its world-class research programs. This project is dedicated to AI-enabled acceleration of invention in engineering disciplines, positioning Princeton as the hub of a transformative new kind of engineering that will enable technologies that were previously unimaginable.
AI for Accelerating Invention goes beyond inventing new technologies by developing tooling that accelerates the process of invention itself. New machine intelligence techniques will be developed to close the loop around the process of design, simulation, fabrication, and control, as well as innovate in the core methods and theory of artificial intelligence.
